What can you do about Lipoedema?
There are many areas you can influence to prevent the progression of lipoedema. Some are fundamental and well within your power to control whether you have Lipoedema or not, like nutrition and exercise. Some might feel a bit further out of reach right now. Don't ever believe there's nothing you can do. Here are a few areas to consider in the management of Lipoedema:
-
Nutrition
-

Diet and Lipoedema
Diet is a very effective tool in the Lipoedema toolbox to reduce and prevent the obesity, inflammation, and pain frequently associated with lipoedema. It's also a topic fraught with anxiety and controversy as most women with Lipoedema have tried every diet under the sun with no success.
While it's often confidently stated that lipoedema is resistant to diet and exercise, this is not the case. Diet for Lipoedema is specialised and requires attention to metabolic health, skeletal muscle health, hormone regulation, and inflammatory influences. It's not simply a matter of eating less and moving more.
There is no "one-size fits all" dietary approach to Lipoedema
Varying degrees of restricting carbohydrate intake is shown to work very well in the dietary management of lipoedema. However, there is also a lot of scope for individuals to experiment with their diet and lifestyle choices to reduce the obesity, inflammation, and pain commonly associated with this condition. Finding what works for you and what you'll stick with can require some experimenting. And this is where The Lipoedema Lab can help.
